If you are a victim of such a scam contact the Attorney General’s Office for your State. You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission and the Internet Crime Complaint Center.

Calls from Card Holder Services purport to be able to reduce your interest rates on your credit card. These type of phone calls are phishing scams. The caller may claim to represent Visa or Master Card. Neither of these companies are in the business of issuing credit cards to consumers. Your credit card is issued by a bank, credit union, or other financial companies that specialize in extending lines of credit. If there is an issue or special offer with your credit card you will be contacted by the card issuer. A card issuer is a bank or other financial institution that provides card association branded credit or debit cards directly to the consumer. Card association brands that may be issued by a financial institution are Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover.

Two ways to stop these type of calls is to add your phone number to the Do Not Call Registry and to Nomorobo. If you fall victim to this typr of scam contact your card issuer immediately and report the fraud. You should also contact the Attorney General’s Office for your State. You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission and the Internet Crime Complaint Center.
